What is the Opportunity Class (OC) Test?
Opportunity Classes cater to academically talented students seeking a specialised learning setting. The OC Test is undertaken in Year 4 to determine placement in Year 5.
In contrast to exams like NAPLAN, the Opportunity Class Test is voluntary, and it’s recommended that only high-achieving students consider applying. In 2024, there are 1840 positions available in 77 government schools throughout NSW. If chosen, students can opt to transition from their current school to participate in the two-year OC program.

To prepare for the OC Test, we recommend Weekly Opportunity Class Tutoring.
We offer two lesson structures:
Private Lessons
We strongly recommend Private Lessons for students preparing for the OC Test as it allows students to work on all 3 test areas - Reading, Mathematical Reasoning & Thinking Skills.
Micro Groups
With a maximum of 3 students, our Micro Groups are subject specific (Maths or English) and allow students to work with others to build upon on areas of weakness whilst solidifying their strengths.

(Year 4 students)

Our experienced teachers will work with your child to familiarise them with what to expect on exam day and extend their current knowledge to help them feel prepared.
All students will be provided with course material, detailed notes and learning resources that they can learn from and refer to at home and at tutoring.

- Mathematical Reasoning

Weekly OC Preparation Classes
At Maths Words not Squiggles, we recommend enrolling for a term at your nearest centre into your preferred day and time.
If your child is unable to make a lesson, or would prefer to engage in their OC Preparation online, they are more than welcome to Join Online from the comfort of your own home.
OC Preparation Holiday Course
We limit the number of enrolments in all our courses to ensure students can receive personalised assistance and benefit from their tuition. As such, we recommend securing a spot in our OC Exam Preparation Course before it fills up.
